    Description

    19th Century Fine Japanese Hand-Painted Satsuma Ware Teacup and Saucer.
    Antique Japanese Satsuma ware teacup and saucer vividly painted  with a group of Arhats (Luohan, Buddhist disciples) together in front of a temple with dragon motifs, rich gold and other enamels on off-white glaze.  Dragon handle on the teacup.  Both pieces bear a Shimazu clan mark (a circle with a cross inside). Both pieces are in excellent condition with minor surface wear commensurate with age and use. Meiji period (1868-1912).  Plate measures 5 1/4 inches in diameter.  Cup measures 4 3/4 inches from handle to rim.
