9.5" tall x 7.0" wide
hand made scalloped-edged and
hexagonal-shaped wood and metal
cigar caddy, mid-late 19th Century,
for maximum storage of 18 cigars,
which are revealed in one 2-pc metal
holder -- 3 cigars to each holder --
to the back side of the 6 ornamented
wood doors when they open (& close)
on the turn of the metal finial on top
cigar storage sits atop of its slightly
larger black lacquered wood base
shaped in mirror image as the
storage and is detailed with the
same continuous metal garland
that seen to the top edge of the
storage area and to the finial
doors' movements are effected
by 7 hand made wood gears
(1/large & 6/small) underneath
condition
desirability of this particular caddy
is 3 fold: 1) doors function as intended;
2) all of the decorative & mechanical
components are intact; 3) finish is original
damage to areas of 2.5 sides of the
6 sided base is due to a shipping
mishandling by the USPS; these areas
were reassembled while no effort has
yet been made to "restore" the
finished condition of the approx. 140
years old item, a project to be done
(or not) by the new owner at not
much cost or effort
