Antique Vienna Bronze Christmas Present Cigar Box Negedly Bronze Foundry 1913

Description

This superbly crafted table-top box of gilt bronze and rose marble was crafted by the Negedly Bronze Foundry of Vienna and Pozsony in 1913 to be given as a Christmas present to valued clientele.  The bronze alone measures 3 3/4" tall x 6 1/2" wide" x 4" deep and is mounted to a 1/2" thick marble base measuring 4 1/2" x 6 3/8".  The design features a dramatically angled lid with cast relief of the Austrian establishment while the back has an image of the one located in Hungary.  The base features a beautifully cast asymmetrical garland of oak leaves and laurel with the banner Weinachten 1913 [Christmas 1913] and the sides of the box features relief depictions of actual bronze casting/manufacturing on the factory floor!  The 4" wide interior bottom of the  box is gently curved for the easy retrieval of cigarillos or similar.  Altogether fascinating and beautifully designed, it has over 95% of its matte finish fire gilding remaining.  The marble has some corner nicks and there is a sloppy solder repair to the hinge inside.
