Details:
This auction is for the exquisite antique Nippon porcelain cup and saucer, made in Japan at the end of the Meiji Period ca.1911.
The gorgeous cup and saucer are made of white porcelain, adorned with hand painted colorful flowers on black and rich hand gilded pattern. The workmanship is exquisite.
The bottom of cup has the identifying green Nippon HAND PAINTED “M in wreath” mark of Morimura Bros. (“Collector’s Enc. Of Nippon Porcelain” by J. F. Van Patten p.14). The word “Nippon” was used as the Japanese word for “Japan,” and was used until about 1921/22, at which point the word Nippon was changed to Japan.
The cup and saucer are as seen in the photos.
Measurements
: The cup is 2.75” tall and 2.3” across the top. The saucer measures 4.75” across.
Condition:
The antique Nippon porcelain cup is in very good condition. The saucer is in very good condition with only minimal age related wear to the gold of the inner circle. Nippon was famous for using very soft 22K gold, therefore some gold wear over the hundred years is very typical and accepted by Nippon collectors.
